Ingredients

  • 12-15 medium mushrooms cleaned and stems removed
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup water or as needed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs for extra crunch
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil for frying
For the Sweet and Sour Dip:
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Method

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms: Clean the mushrooms and remove stems. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. Make the Batter: In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Gradually add water to create a thick batter.
  3. Coat the Mushrooms: Dip each mushroom into the batter, ensuring it is well-coated, then roll it in breadcrumbs for a crispy exterior.
  4. Heat the Oil: In a deep pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  5. Fry the Mushrooms: Fry the mushrooms in batches, about 2-3 minutes, until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Make the Dip: In a small bowl, combine ketchup, vinegar, honey, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Stir well.
  7. Serve: Serve the fried mushrooms hot with the sweet and sour dip on the side. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For a spicier dip, add chili sauce or sriracha.
  • Use other types of mushrooms like button or portobello for different textures.
