Ingredients

For the Mushrooms:
  • 200 g button mushrooms cleaned and patted dry
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Oil for deep frying
For Spicy Ketchup:
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp sriracha or any hot sauce
  • 1 tsp honey
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

Method

  1. Prep the Mushrooms: Gently clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth, removing any dirt. Pat them completely dry to ensure the coating sticks.
  2. Set Up Coating Stations: Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat the Mushrooms: Roll each mushroom in the flour, dip in the egg, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Press gently to adhere the breadcrumbs.
  4. Fry the Mushrooms: Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 180°C (350°F). Fry mushrooms in small batches until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Drain on a paper towel.
  5. Prepare Spicy Ketchup: Mix ketchup, sriracha, honey, and smoked paprika in a bowl. Adjust spice levels to your liking.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Serve the fried mushrooms hot with spicy ketchup on the side.

Notes

For a healthier alternative, air-fry the mushrooms at 200°C (390°F) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
