Ingredients

  • 250 g 8 oz button or cremini mushrooms
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional: Chopped parsley and lemon wedges for garnish

Method

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms: Wash the mushrooms and pat them dry with a paper towel. Remove stems if desired.
  2. Set Up Coating Stations: In one bowl, mix flour with salt and pepper. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs. In a third bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs, parmesan, garlic powder, and paprika.
  3. Coat the Mushrooms: Roll each mushroom in the flour mixture, dip it in the egg, then coat it in the breadcrumb mixture. For an extra crispy coating, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  4. Heat the Oil: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the Mushrooms: Fry the coated mushrooms in small batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce and lemon wedges.

Notes

  • Adjust seasoning to taste.
  • Use an air fryer for a healthier alternative—cook at 400°F (200°C) for 10–12 minutes, shaking halfway through.
