Ingredients

  • 250 g fresh mushrooms button or cremini
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese divided
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Method

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms: Clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth and pat them dry. Trim the stems if necessary.
  2. Set Up Breading Stations: Place flour in one shallow bowl. Beat eggs in a second bowl. Mix breadcrumbs, ¼ cup Parmesan, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a third bowl.
  3. Bread the Mushrooms: Coat each mushroom in flour, dip it in beaten eggs, and roll it in the breadcrumb mixture. Press gently to adhere.
  4. Heat the Oil: In a deep pan, heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the Mushrooms: Fry mushrooms in small batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.
  6. Finish with Parmesan: Sprinkle the hot mushrooms with the remaining Parmesan cheese.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For a healthier version, bake the breaded mushrooms at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Pair with garlic aioli or marinara sauce for extra indulgence.
