340 g fresh button mushrooms, cleaned and trimmed
1

all-purpose flour
½
cup
cornstarch
1
tsp
garlic powder
1
tsp
onion powder
½
tsp
salt
¼
tsp
black pepper
1
cup
buttermilk
or milk
1
egg
1
cup
breadcrumbs
preferably panko
Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
Clean the mushrooms thoroughly, removing stems if necessary.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and buttermilk together.
Dip each mushroom in the wet mixture, then coat in the flour mixture. Repeat for extra crispiness.
Roll the coated mushrooms in breadcrumbs until evenly covered.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot over medium-high heat (around 350°F/175°C).
Fry the mushroom bites in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
Notes
Ensure the oil is hot enough to fry, but not smoking. This prevents the mushrooms from absorbing too much oil and becoming soggy.
If you're short on time, you can skip the double-dipping step but for extra crunch, it’s worth the effort!
