  • Serve with a side of ranch for a cooler alternative to garlic sauce.
  • If the oil temperature is too low, the mushrooms may become soggy.

Ingredients

  • 500 g fresh button mushrooms cleaned and trimmed
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying

For Garlic Sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prep Mushrooms: Slice the mushrooms into halves or quarters depending on size. Set aside.
  • Make the Breading: In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, breadcrumbs, Cajun seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt.
  • Dipping Station: Set up a dipping station: one bowl with buttermilk and another with beaten eggs.
  • Coat Mushrooms: Dip each mushroom into the buttermilk, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently for a thick, even coating.
  • Heat Oil: In a deep skillet or pan, heat oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the mushrooms in batches, frying for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Make Garlic Sauce: While frying, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Stir well.
  • Drain & Serve: Once the mushrooms are fried, place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve with the garlic dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, you can bake the mushrooms at 400°F for about 20 minutes.
  • Double the garlic sauce recipe if you prefer extra dip!
